The School of Social Science and Global Studies at The University of Southern Mississippi invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor in socio-cultural anthropology. The position is open to all areas of specialization, but the ability to contribute to interdisciplinary programs is desirable. We are particularly interested in scholars whose research agendas intersect with issues of inequality and justice, ethnohistory, or applied/practicing/public anthropology (including design and business anthropology). In addition to outlining a research agenda and teaching interests, letters of application should address at least one of the following: potential contributions to inter-disciplinary study, engaging students in research, or ability to train students in research methods and data analysis.
The anthropology program is housed in the School for Social Science and Global Studies and the successful candidate will work with both BA and MA students. The successful applicant will have a 3/3 teaching load, maintain an active research agenda, and provide service to the department, university, discipline and/or community. Teaching responsibilities may include the following classes: four-field introduction to anthropology, introduction to cultural/linguistic anthropology, methods classes, theory, and electives in the applicant’s areas of expertise.
